We’re well into 2018, and it’s about time to talk about the Color of the Year. Since 2000, Pantone dedicates a whole year to a specific color. You know the whole rose quartz craze still going on? You guessed it, it was Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2016. This year, Pantone has revealed the Color of the Year to be Ultra Violet, and we are already seeing beautiful jewelry of the color.
Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple, is “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade,” described by Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
The color of royalty, wealth, and power, purple is a complex, thought-invoking shade. At one point, purple dye was very expensive to obtain, and only those of great wealth could wear purple. Now with purple readily available, anyone can rock a shade of purple. Purple, a color made by mixing red and blue hues, has both warm and cool tones and therefore, very versatile.
Ultra violet is expected to be a large part of this year. From fashion to home decorations to advertisements, purple is expected to tap into all parts of our lifestyle this year. For jewelry, from tanzanite to amethyst, different gemstones come in various shades of purple to suit your preferences.
